Many sustainability experts would agree that one of the key challenges in tackling social and environmental issues is that service providers often lack a proper understanding of the local context and tend to rely on a one-size-fits-all approach. However, if you work with Petra, you can be confident in the reliability of the data collected from the field. For example, we worked closely with them on a social baseline study to determine the best approach for engaging with Artisanal Miners operating within the area of our mining license. Thanks to the concrete data provided by Petra, we were able to tailor our stakeholder engagement plan accordingly. As a result, we succeeded in reaching agreements with both ASM miners and local communities for the peaceful evacuation of the area and in mitigating our impact in accordance with international standards. In my opinion, without the invaluable support of Petra, the project would not have been completed within the desired timeframe or budget.
